Vaccine Storage and Power Outage
In light of the major electricity outage in August, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued guidance on handling vaccines that have been subjected to an extended power loss. During such an event, monitor the storage temperatures but do not open the freezer or refrigerator until power is restored. Do not discard or administer the vaccines until discussion with public health authorities. Vaccines most sensitive to higher temperatures are MMR and Varivax.
